Queenscourt is governed by a board of Trustees; they make sure that we fulfil our objectives and adhere to the organisation’s philosophy and values. They do this by making sure that Queenscourt operates in a manner that:

  • Lets us fulfil the objectives set out in our mission Statement of Purpose
  • Uses assets and resources for charitable purposes
  • Gives due attention to charitable and company law
  • Adheres to the organisation’s philosophy and values
  • Upholds the reputation of the organisation.

Chairperson
Anthony Crewe is the Chair of Queenscourt Hospice. He took on the role of Chair in October 2020 and has been a Trustee of Queenscourt since October 2016. He has worked for HM Revenue & Customs for almost thirty years and has lived in Southport for over a decade, currently residing in Birkdale with his wife, children & four cats. Away from Queenscourt Anthony is a big football fan and a proud owner of a Blackburn Rovers season ticket.
Carol Bernard

Vice-Chair of Trustees

Joining our board of trustees in 2016, Carol Bernard is a retired health professional with many years of experience working as a Nurse in the field of mental health care. She is passionate about patient care and loves to hear about the experiences and views of everyone who has come into contact with Queenscourt. She also sits on our Visiting Group, Succession Committee and Integrated Board of Governance.

Treasurer

Paul has been Volunteer Treasurer since April 2015. He has retired from his career as an accountant and financial officer in local government, which he did for over 40 years. He also sits on our Succession Committee and Investment Committee.

Margaret H Tarpey

Chair of Retail and Enterprises

Margaret has been a Trustee since 2004. For 20 years she ran her own north west marketing and PR agency before retiring in 2015. She now works as a marketing consultant. She serves as chair of the Retail and Enterprise Boards and also sits on our Investment Committee.

Yvonne Burns

Director of Retail

Ms Yvonne Burns became a trustee in 2012 and she manages a retail centre within Southport. She also sits on our Succession Committee and Risk Monitoring Group.

Geraldine Boocock
Geraldine Boocock

Geraldine began her career studying Medicine at Manchester Med School and retired in 2013 as the Medical Director of Southport & Ormskirk Trust. She joined our board in 2016, possessing a keen professional interest in palliative care. Geraldine is also a volunteer at the Ormskirk Foodbank and a director of Burscough Community Farm. She also sits on our Risk Monitoring Group and Visiting Group.

Ann Throp
Ann Throp
Ann Throp retired from her role as Director of Non Clinical Services with us in 2013. Previously Ann worked at the hospice as our Hospice Administrator and as a trustee on the staffing sub committee in the early 90's, prior to the opening of Queenscourt. Ann has over 20 years of experience in HR and management roles across the NHS. She also sits on the Risk Monitoring Group and is a member of the Visiting Group.
Martin Abrams
Martin Abrams
The Rev Martin Abrams is chaplain for the Southport and Ormskirk Trust. He is also the Freedom to Speak Up Guardian.  Martin was born and brought up in Southport, attending school at Norwood Road Primary and Meols Cop High, later attending Cliff College, a Methodist lay training college and studying for a masters degree in pastoral studies at Cardiff University.
Kim Wallis
Kim Wallis

Kim Wallis is a local Chartered Surveyor who has run his own practice since 1987. He joined the Trustee board in 2022 having long been a supporter of Queenscourt.

Terry McGraw
Terry McGraw

Terry became a Trustee of Queenscourt Hospice in 2021. He has been practising as a Solicitor in the Southport and Formby area for nearly 40 years. He lives in Hillside with his wife Debbie and continues to specialise in the field of Private Client and Older persons Client Work. He also assists on the Strategic Project Group within QCH.

David Kemp
David Kemp

David worked in the Public Sector for over 35 years until his retirement and has lived in Ormskirk for over 30 years. Since 2000 he has been a Private Residential Landlord and manages properties in Merseyside and Greater Manchester. He is currently an NHS Responder. He likes to dine out and listen to music. David regards himself as a reasonable cook but a poor gardener.

Louise Hooton
Louise Hooton

Louise became a Trustee of Queenscourt Hospice in 2021. She has worked in Social Housing for several Local Authorities and Housing Associations across the Northwest of England for over 30 years. Louise enjoys cooking and gardening in her spare time.

 

Dr Karen Matthews
Dr Karen Matthews

Karen is a lawyer with over 30 years legal experience, is qualified to practice law in the U.K. and the U.S. (Florida) and is a qualified Governance Professional. In addition to her professional qualifications, she holds an LL. B (hons) and a Juris Doctor (cum laude). She is Pension Trustee for Parkhaven and a Non-Executive Director of 5D Health Protection Group Limited, a global innovation, microbiology and contract research organisation. Karen currently lives in Birkdale and likes to support and engage in community activities. She enjoys regular trips to the theatre and loves to travel.
