The 13th annual Queenscourt Hospice Star Trekk proved a resounding success earlier this year, attracting over 1,000 entrants who between them have raised more than £77,000.
The sponsored 10K night walk around the streets of Southport attracted entrants of all ages who were all determined to raise vital funds for Queenscourt. The amazing amount raised so far from this year’s event, brings the total raised since it began to well over £820,000!
As in previous years, friends, family members, work colleagues and neighbours had joined forces to show their support for Queenscourt with many taking part in memory of a loved one, while others simply wanted to do their bit for charity.
The evening began at Casablanca, Southport Pleasureland where there was the chance for the walkers to soak up the festive atmosphere and enjoy the pre-Trekk entertainment.
Event Fundraiser, Dianne Gillespie, said: “The event was a fantastic success with all participants entering into the festive feel. We are enormously grateful to each and every person who took part and also the volunteers who helped on the night”.
“I would also like to express my thanks to all the organisations and businesses from across Southport, Formby and West Lancashire who got behind the event.”
Money raised by Star Trekk 2019 will help to ensure that here at Queenscourt we can continue to provide free, high-quality care for patients with far advanced, progressive, incurable illnesses, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life at each new stage.
We help to do this both at the hospice and at home through our In-Patient Unit, Queenscourt Connect and Queenscourt at Home services. We also send specialist nurses and doctors into hospital and into people’s homes to advise and support patients, families and the frontline staff caring for them.
It costs over £400 an hour, 365 days a year to keep Queenscourt running and we rely heavily on community support and donations to do this. In all, 96p of every £1 donated is spent on providing and supporting direct patient care.
Fundraising events like Star Trekk are important to our continued success so please save the date for our next major outdoor fundraiser which will be the Queenscourt Annual Santa Sprint taking place from Silcocks Funland in Southport at 11am on Sunday, December 8, with registration from 9.30am.
