Queenscourt Hospice has been at the centre of the Southport community for years, but we still need to spread the word about the diverse range of services we provide. Raising awareness of our work is vital to the continued success of our hospice and that’s why our team of Volunteer Ambassadors is so important.

Queenscourt Volunteer Ambassadors are the face of our charity. Their role includes attending events on our behalf, attending cheque presentations to collect money raised by various organisations, businesses and schools; and they can also be called upon to give presentations

We are currently recruiting new Volunteer Ambassadors to join our friendly and enthusiastic team, which includes Netty Styche who would encourage anyone with some free time to get involved.

Netty has been a volunteer at Queenscourt for seven years. She signed up after her mother-in-law had been a patient at the Hospice. “The staff were all marvellous and looked after her so well,” she said. “I came away inspired and desperately wanted to give something back.”

Netty started volunteering in the kitchen, washing dishes and making drinks for the wards. She also helps out on reception where she meets and greets patients, their families and other visitors.

In her role as Volunteer Ambassador, Netty attended last weekend’s Formby Festival, the organisers of which chose Queenscourt as one of the beneficiaries of this year’s event.

Netty was at the Queenscourt stand to hand out leaflets and sell raffle tickets. She also spent time simply talking to people about Queenscourt.

She had volunteered to help out at the festival as she has close links with Formby. Both her sons went to high school there and her mother-in-law had lived in Formby until she spent her last few weeks at Queenscourt.

“I think that just by being a friendly and local face, I was able to chat to people about Queenscourt’s work,” said Netty. “When it comes from the heart it hits home with most people as to just how incredible Queenscourt is in every way.

“I hope I was able to raise awareness of our amazing charity and all the work, love and passion that Queenscourt radiates.

“I absolutely love volunteering for Queenscourt. I come away from it with the most amazing sense of satisfaction and would encourage anyone to come and join us.”

Explaining the importance of Volunteer Ambassadors to Queenscourt Hospice, Rachel Kennedy, Community Fundraiser said, “Our Volunteer Ambassadors are invaluable. They help us spread the word and drum up support for all we do at Queenscourt by getting out and about and attending events and presentations. We’d be lost without them.

“Each of our Volunteer Ambassadors is provided with full training. We’d encourage anyone who has some spare time and fancies getting involved with such a great initiative, to get in touch.”
