Stan’s Poem in Memory of Lyn

Stan Park has written a poem honouring his beloved wife, Linda Mary Park—affectionately known as Lyn – after she was cared for by #teamqueenscourt.

Lyn died peacefully at home on 18th March 2024 following a sudden diagnosis of Glioblastoma Grade IV in June 2023.

Having just returned from a holiday in Portugal in June 2023, they were met with what Stan describes in his poem as a “sledge-hammer blow” when doctors confirmed the aggressive and terminal nature of the illness.

Lyn’s wish was to remain at home during her care, surrounded by her family, friends and loved ones. A wish that, with the support of Queenscourt, was fulfilled.

Stan’s poem is inspired by the couple’s cherished memories of Skiathos in Greece where they spent many happy holidays together. Although Stan was a Journalist by trade, he often struggled to communicate his emotions during Lyn’s treatment.

Stan said: “I was not good at expressing my feelings. Without the emotional release through chats with the Queenscourt Team, I wouldn’t have been able to write the poem about Lyn and her “idyllic place of peace” in Skiathos.”

Originally from Bristol, Lyn had a good understanding of Palliative Care, having worked as a Hospice Support Worker at St Peter’s Hospice. Lyn later trained as a Senior Theatre Practitioner, working at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals, and also contributed to Marie Curie’s end-of-life care service. Even during her illness, she found joy in sharing stories about her work and family with Nurses from Queenscourt.

Stan added: “Queenscourt at Home’s Care Shifts were a major part of being able to honour Lyn’s wishes of being cared for at home. The incredible Nurses gave practical help and also much-needed emotional support to both of us.”

“With Queenscourt Nurses spending time with Lyn during each Care Shift, I was able to have small breaks, taking my mind off things and continuing my hobbies of walking and playing squash.

“The Queenscourt Team were a massive help to us both in our darkest days.”
