Andrew Gee’s Story

When Andrew Gee became ill earlier this year, his greatest wish was to be cared for at home. Thanks to the support of Queenscourt Hospice, that wish became a reality.

Our Queenscourt at Home service helps patients to remain in the place they feel most comfortable, their home. By offering specialist care and support in people’s own homes, we help them stay where they belong – surrounded by love, familiarity, and peace.

Queenscourt at Home provides planned care-shifts for patients who have a far advanced, progressive and life-limiting illness and who want to be cared for in their own home.

Our Big Give Christmas Challenge Campaign this December, titled “Home is Where the Heart Is”, focuses on raising vital funds to ensure that even more families can benefit from the exceptional compassionate care that #teamqueenscourt provides.

During Andrew’s end-of-life care, our Queenscourt at Home Team provided much-needed support for his wife Valerie and their family too.

Valerie said: “Queenscourt became part of our care system. They looked after me, as well as Andrew.

“Home is Where the Heart is” is a perfect slogan for the care that #teamqueenscourt provided us with, which enabled us to keep Andrew at home.

“During his last few months, members of the Queenscourt at Home Team were able to stay with Andrew, so that I could spend some time looking after myself. I was still there for Andrew, but it enabled me to see friends, do the gardening, and do such simple tasks as washing my hair, all whilst knowing that Andrew was being cared for.

“Andrew thought so highly of #teamqueenscourt. He always welcomed them into our home, and felt that they had become ‘part of our family’. He died in a loving, caring environment, our own home, where everything was familiar.”
